STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Drexel's defense held Stony Brook without a field goal for the final 8:11 of the game as the Dragons defeated the Seawolves, 67-51, in a CAA contest on Thursday night at Stony Brook Arena. Kobe MaGee scored 24 points as the Dragons picked up their sixth road win of the season, which is tied for the most in the nation.
The Dragons (10-6, 2-1) held Stony Brook to just 25 percent shooting in the second half as they broke open what was a close game. The Seawolves (4-12, 0-3) trailed by just two with 13 minutes to go, but down the stretch the Dragons' defense played well. They forced Stony Brook into seven second half turnovers, including a pair of shot-clock violations. Drexel closed the game on a 13-2 run, holding the Seawolves to just a pair of free throws.
MaGee nailed six of his eight 3-point attempts as he eclipsed the 20-point mark for the third times this season. Yame Butler added 14 points and was 5-for-6 from the line, all down the stretch for DU. He also made three 3-pointers. The Dragons were 11-for-22 from behind the arc and shot 43 percent overall. Victor Panov and Cole Hargrove each had 10 rebounds to lead Drexel. For Panov, the 10 boards were a career-high. Clem Edomwonyin had three of the team's eight blocked shots.
CJ Luster II led the Seawolves with 21 points and sank five 3-pointers. Jared Frey added 10 points.
The Dragons will finally have a home game in the Daskalakis Athletic Center this weekend. Drexel begins a three-game homestand on Saturday against preseason CAA favorite Towson comes to Philadelphia. Drexel hasn't played a game in the DAC since Dec. 2.
