Drexel Falls to Syracuse at Xfinity Mobile Arena

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team fell to the Syracuse Orange, 80-50, on Saturday evening at the Xfinity Mobile Arena as part of the Autumn Invitational. Eli Beard led the team with 13 points. The Dragons and Orange played in the second game of two.
BY THE NUMBERS
Beard also recorded four rebounds, two assists and two steals while playing 32 minutes.
Kevon Vanderhorst had nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Villiam Garcia Adsten and Shane Blakeney each had seven points.
The Dragons held a slight edge over the Orange on boards, corralling 39, while Syracuse to 36 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a tense, back and forth game with neither team pulling ahead. Both teams shot 50% from the field in the opening frame and the largest lead of the half was a six-point lead for the Orange. Drexel started the game strong, building a 17-13 lead off an Eli Beard three 11 minutes in.
A Dillon Tingler rebound led to a Kevon Vanderhorst dunk which took the lead down to two with 5:11 remaining. Tingler made a three that cut the Orange lead to one with 2:54 remaining. Drexel out-rebounded Syracuse, 19-9, and had five second-chance points and held the Orange to just three.
Syracuse started the second half with a 24-7 run and held the lead for the rest of the game. The second half was all Orange, however the Dragons held Syracuse to 2-for-8 from long range.
