Dragons Defeated by NJIT, 73-66

NEWARK, N.J. – The Drexel women's basketball team was defeated by the NJIT Highlanders 73-66 on Saturday afternoon at NJIT's Wellness and Athletic Center in Newark, N.J.
BY THE NUMBERS
Amaris Baker became 28th player in program history to score 1000 points in a Drexel uniform after scoring her fourth point in today's contest. The graduate student finished the game with a career-high 35 points and 11 rebounds, marking the second double-double of her career. Her rebound total was also a career-high.
NJIT held the lead for the full duration of the game. After falling behind by double-digits in the first quarter, Drexel was only able to get within three points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NJIT opened the game with a 11-point run that forced Drexel to call its first timeout of the game. Out of the timeout, Drexel launched an eight-point run of its own to pull itself back into the game. However, the Highlanders added seven more points to carry an 18-10 lead into the second quarter.
The Highlanders and Dragons each scored 16 points in the second quarter. Drexel took twice as many shots as NJIT did, and finished just a tick under 50 percent (7-for-15). The Dragons ended the quarter on a 9-3 run to make the deficit single-digits once again. The Highlanders entered the locker room ahead, 34-26.
The Dragons and Highlanders played to a 19-19 third quarter. The Highlanders converted on 8-for-14 from the field, while the Dragons went 7-for-18 and made one trey in the third frame.
In the fourth, the Dragons erupted with a 6-point run to pull within four in the beginning of the quarter. The Highlanders answered by erasing the run with a 6-point run of their own. The Dragons outscored the Highlanders 21-20 in the final frame but was unable to take back the lead.

The Dragons have a chance to punch its ticket to the Toyota Women's Big 5 Classic championship game with a win against the Hawks on Saturday, November 29. Action from Hagan Arena is set for 2 p.m.
