Women's Basketball Set to Face Marist on Friday

PHILADELPHIA - The Dragons travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to face the Marist Red Foxes on Friday at 7 p.m. Action from McCann Arena can be seen on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
Laine McGurk scored a career-high 33 points in Drexel's season-opening victory against Pitt, 68-60, at the Petersen Events Center on Tuesday night. The victory was Janet E. and Barry C. Burkholder Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Amy Mallon's 100th career victory.
Drexel's victory against Pitt on Monday is the first victory against a Power-4 school since the team defeated Penn State on December 18, 2022.
The Dragons shot a blistering 42 percent from the field, including a 9-for-14 clip in the second quarter. The Dragons defense held Pitt to 36 percent from the field.
McGurk set career-highs in multiple categories, including points, minutes played, field goals and treys. The West Chester native shot 13-for-19 across 35 minutes of play and connected on five shots from deep.
Deja Evans completed the sixth double-double of her career, scoring 12 points and corralling 16 rebounds, one short of her career high.

Drexel and Marist will be meeting for the fourth time on Friday night. The Dragons own a 2-1 record over the Red Foxes with a two-game winstreak. Marist's lone victory was in 2021 when the two teams met for the first time at the DAC.
Last Time Against Marist
Drexel scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed as the Dragons defeated Marist, 64-53, in the season-opener at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Amaris Baker led the way for the Dragons with 21 points. Prior to the game, the 2024 team was presented with their CAA Championship rings. The ceremony included family members, Drexel women's basketball alumnae, administration and friends of the program.
Baker had 17 of her game-high 21 points in first half. She was 8-for-19 from the floor and made a pair of 3-pointers.

Deja Evans had a career-high with four steals, three of them in the opening frame. Molly Lavin led the Dragons with six rebounds.
The Dragons shot better than 53 percent from behind the arc (8-for-15) and had five different players drain at least one 3-pointer. McGurk and Cara McCormack were each 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point stripe.
Overall, the Dragons shot 50 percent from the field. Drexel's defense forced 21 Marist turnovers in the game.
Looking Ahead
Drexel begins the home slate of the 2025-26 season on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Dragons welcome the Penn Quakers to the Daskalakis Athletic Center for the first time December 21, 2018. It will be the first time the two teams have met since December 20, 2019.
