Dragons Fall to American in Tight Contest, 75-73

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Drexel Dragons fell to the American University Eagles on Wednesday, 75-73, at the Bender Arena. Shane Blakeney led the team with 22 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Blakeney shot 50% from the field while capturing five rebounds and stealing the ball twice.
Kevon Vanderhorst scored 13 points while shooting 54.5% from the field and having three assists.
Villiam Garcia Adsten had 11 rebounds and an assist.
Martin de Laporterie and Garfield Turner each blocked two shots.
The Dragons outrebounded the Eagles 38-35.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, leading 13-5 before a Garfield Turner layup at 13:23, which started a 10-2 Drexel run. The Dragons continued to chip away at the lead before a Villiam Garcia Adsten three and layups from Turner and Blakeney put the Dragons ahead 26-20 with 5:26 remaining. Drexel finished the first half with a 14-7 run and led 40-27 at the half. The Dragons shot 58.6% from the field in the first half and 42.9% from three.
The Eagles started the second half strong before an Eli Beard three extended the Dragons' lead to 43-37 with 17:14 remaining. The Eagles chipped away at the lead with a 10-1 run before a Dillon Tingler three put Drexel ahead by four with 9:16 left. A 14-4 American run put the Eagles up 70-64 with 2:46 remaining. The Dragons fought back but ultimately lost 75-73.
