
Drexel Wins EIWA Independence Division Championship; Sweeps LIU and Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel wrestling team won the EIWA Independence Division Championship after collecting a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons began the day with a 36-6 win over LIU. DU then scored their first shutout victory of the season, downing Hofstra 36-0.
Match 1 - LIU
Desmond Pleasant scored first for the Dragons, winning a close battle with Robbie Sagaris with a 4-3 decision. Kyle Waterman then put on a dominant performance at 133-pounds. The redshirt senior recorded a 18-3 technical fall, this second of the year and the first in dual competition. Jordan Soriano picked up the first of three pins for the Dragons. The junior earned two takedowns, and got the fall in the second period.
Cody Walsh had an impressive victory at 165-pounds. The Cherry Hill, New Jersey native came close to technical fall, recording the 17-3 major decision. Jasiah Queen followed up with a pin at 174-pounds. Queen had a 7-3 advantage in the third period, eventually getting his second career pin with a minute left on the clock. Giuseppe Hoose earned another win at 184-pounds, winning by decision, 8-2
Mickey O'Malley earned his second pin of the season over Corey Connolly. The graduate student got the job done in the first period of the bout. This was O'Malley's 28th career fall, as he sits third all-time in program history. Ibrahim Ameer rounded out the night with a 4-1 decision win, his seventh of the season.

Match 2 - Hofstra
Drexel scored the 36-0 win over Hofstra, securing the EIWA Independence Division Championship. The Dragons finished with a 4-0 record in the division, and 6-1 in the EIWA overall.
Desmond Pleasant and Kyle Waterman kicked things off with two competitive decision wins. Jordan Soriano scored three more points for the Dragons at 141-pounds. Soriano had a 7-2 lead with a minute left in the third. Justin Hoyle made a quick comeback, securing an escape and a takedown to cut the deficit to just one. The Westbury, New York turned the tables, getting the escape and a takedown of his own to secure the decision win, 11-7.
Dom Findora earned another overtime win over Noah Tapia at 149-pounds. This is Findora's third sudden victory in dual matches this season. Cody Walsh came back from 3-0 to take the 7-3 win at 165-pounds. Jasiah Queen picked up another impressive win over Matthew Waddell at 174-pounds. The redshirt freshman has earned bonus points in 16 of his 18 victories this season.
Giuseppe Hoose defeated Ross McFarland by sudden victory at 184-pounds. The match was tied at one apiece heading into extra time. One minute into overtime, Hoose blocked a Hofstra takedown and grabbed the ankle for the three points.
Mickey O'Malley cruised to a 17-1 technical fall win at 197-pounds. The Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey native improves to 7-1 in his 2024-25 campaign. Ibrahim Ameer closed out the bout for Drexel, collecting the shut out with a 7-2 decision win.
