Dragons Take Down UNCW, 68-55

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the UNCW Seahawks, 68-55. The Dragons (12-9, 8-3 CAA) led the Seahawks (12-12, 6-5 CAA) for over 37 minutes.
BY THE NUMBERS
Chloe Hodges finished the game with 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting. The senior also corralled six rebounds and five assists.
Four different Dragons chipped in at least 10 points. Hodges led the team with 17 and Grace O'Neill scored 12. Cara McCormack and Molly Lavin each scored 10 points.
Drexel outrebounded UNCW 41-22. The Dragons grabbed 15 rebounds on the offensive front and 26 defensively.
Drexel picked up 22 assists on 29 made field goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting in the first quarter, including a 4-for-9 clip from long range. Hodges led the Dragons with seven points, while O'Neill sank a pair of treys to help Drexel build an 11-point lead.
The Dragons extended their lead by three in the second quarter, putting up another 50 percent clip. Six different Dragons contributed to the total in the second frame. Laine McGurk converted on two 3-pointers, while Lavin and Hodges both pitched in four points. Drexel went into the locker room at half ahead, 41-27.
Drexel outscored the Seahawks once more in the third, extending its lead to 15. Amaris Baker and Hodges each contributed four points, while O'Neill scored three and Deja Evans scored two. Drexel led 54-39 after three frames.
UNCW began the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter, trimming the Drexel advantage to just eight points, the closest the two teams have been since 2:17 left in the first quarter. Drexel pulled away in the final minutes of the game to finish the game with a 13-point lead.
