PHILADELPHIA – Drexel University Head Golf Coach Ben Feld has decided to step away from collegiate coaching after leading the Dragons for the last nine seasons.
"You don't have to dig far to see the competitive impact Ben Feld's leadership has had on our men's golf program," said Vice President, Director of Athletics & Recreation Maisha Kelly. "The team has thrived, achieving top 100 rankings, finishing third or higher on several occasions in CAA championships, and maintaining a presence as one of the best golf programs in the City. Ben's passion for Drexel, having been a member of the men's golf team during his undergraduate years and even serving as a manager for the men's basketball team, permeated throughout his career. He recruited individuals with character, commanded the respect of peers, and always represented the Drexel Men's Golf program, the department, and the university with class. Ben will always be a Dragon and will now be present as an alum and supporter of the department. On behalf of the department, I thank Ben for delivering on the adage "you want to leave a place better than you found it."
"It has been the honor of a lifetime getting to lead my alma mater for the past nine seasons as its head coach," said Ben Feld. "I'm incredibly proud of what we have built and accomplished, grateful for the relationships that have developed, and forever indebted to the student-athletes who poured their hearts and souls into our mission and represented our program with such integrity and class throughout the years. The timing is right for me to step away. As time has become more and more valuable, I found myself spread very thin. While Jess has remained endlessly open and supportive, I don't want to miss milestones or lose the opportunity to make memories with her and our daughter, Leila. I know I can no longer give the blood that this program requires and deserves. I firmly believe that the program's brightest days are ahead."
Feld was named Drexel's Head Coach in May of 2016. He took over the program after serving as the team's interim head coach prior to his promotion. Feld has taken the program to a new level over the past few seasons as the Dragons have become one of the top programs in the CAA. This spring, the Dragons had their best finish ever at the 2025 CAA Championships. Drexel came from behind to force a playoff and narrowly missed winning the school's first championship in the sport. Drexel has had five top three finishes at the CAA Championships under Feld's guidance. The Dragons have finished second on two occasions and third three times.
Feld's teams have won 19 events since he took over as head coach, including five City 6 Championships. He has had eight players named to All-CAA teams and has had seven CAA All-Tournament team selections in his tenure. His 2023-24 team had arguably the best run in school history. Feld's team won all four of their events, and the Dragons were the only team in all of Division I to go undefeated in the fall season. His players have gone on to play in three major championships, two PGA Tour events, and countless events on the Korn Ferry and PGA Americas Tour. Feld played four years of golf at Drexel and was a two-time captain. He graduated in 2013 and also earned a master's degree from the University in 2016.
There will be a national search for Drexel's next golf coach.
