PHILADELPHIA – Drexel's Griffin Mitchell and Drue Nicholas have been named Second Team All-CAA in a vote by the league's coaches.
Mitchell and Nicholas, both graduate students, were key performers for the Dragons over the past four years. This season, they led the Dragons to their best finish ever in the postseason. Drexel forced a playoff after 54 holes against Elon in the CAA Championship, narrowly missing the school's first championship
Mitchell is a Second Team All-CAA pick for the second straight season. He finished second at the CAA Championship, was named to the CAA All-Tournament team and made an eagle on 18 as the Dragons rallied from five strokes back late in the round. Earlier in the year, Mitchell finished second at the Dragon Match Play Invitational. In his final season he had eight rounds at par or better, including a season-best 2-under par 69 at the Peoples Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga.
Nicholas will leave Drexel as one of its most decorated golfers. He has been honored by the CAA in each of his four seasons, once as a First Team All-CAA selection and three times as a Second Team pick. Nicholas led the Dragons in scoring average at 71.6. The Egg Harbor Township native was named CAA Player of the Week twice this season and now has eight CAA Player of the Week awards in his career. Nicholas had five top five finishes in 24-25, including being medalist at the Peoples Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. and three second-place finishes. Ten of his 23 rounds this season were in the 60's and he was at or better than par 12 times. Nicholas has four wins in his career and has twice been named a CAA All-Tournament selection.
