PHILADELPHIA - Shannon McNally has been named an assistant coach for the Drexel Field Hockey team, as announced by Head Coach Denise Zelenak on Monday. McNally comes to Drexel after a collegiate career as a goalkeeper at Saint Joseph's and Indiana.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Shannon to our Drexel Field Hockey staff," Zelenak said. "She brings with her a depth of top-level playing experience in addition to her love for coaching. Shannon's knowledge and passion for the game is something we are excited for her to share with our athletes and program."
McNally spent her graduate season at Saint Joseph's. The Phoenixville native was a part of the 2024 Hawks team that reached their first NCAA National Championship game in program history, taking down the top-seeded and unbeaten North Carolina in the semifinals. Saint Joseph's won their fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 title, the team's eighth overall. McNally made five appearances during her 2024 campaign, making one start. She collected seven saves and posted a 1-1 record.
Before her time in Philadelphia, McNally spent four years at Indiana University. While in Bloomington, she played in 23 games with 17 starts in front of the cage. McNally had 93 saves in her career with the Hoosiers, earning a 4-4 record her senior season with a 1.80 goals-against average. The goalkeeper was named a team captain nominee and received a Senior NEXUS Championship selection in 2023. Additionally, McNally was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Hoosier Hero Program, and Emerging Leaders Leadership and Elite Leaders Leadership Workshops.
The Springside Chestnut Hill product brings prior coaching experience to the Dragons. She spent time at The Goalie Trainer, where she specialized in clinics and camps for goalkeepers from U10 to U19 age groups. McNally was also a coach at Powerhouse FHC, where she was responsible for training and coaching U10, U14, and U16 Indoor NIT Teams.
