Kevin Lydon Qualifies for US Amateur

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel rising senior Kevin Lydon survived a playoff to advance to the United States Amateur, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country.
Lydon fired a 2-under-par 68 on Monday after advancing to the final qualifying at The Whippoorwill Club in Armonk, N.Y. The 68 tied him with four other players for the final spot at the site. It took five extra holes before Lydon made a birdie to move on to the 125th U.S. Amateur. The tournament will take place at the renowned Olympic Club in San Francisco from August 11-17.
Previous winners of the U.S. Amateur include some of the most recognizable names in the history of the sport. Those names include Tiger Woods, Bob Jones, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer just to name a few. Other winners over the last decade include Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland.
Lydon will join recent Drexel graduate Drue Nicholas at the US Amateur. Nicholas won the BMW Philadelphia Amateur at Aronimink Golf Club in June, which qualified him for the tournament.
