Drexel Draws with Saint Peter’s in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Elise Duffy scored a spectacular goal in the 43rd minute as Drexel played Saint Peter's to a draw, 1-1. The Peacocks were finally able to find the back of the net in the closing minutes of the contest in Philadelphia. The Dragons go to 0-0-1 on the young season as they move on to game two of the three-game home stand.

Adriana Salzano was able to make things happen for the Dragons, as she dished the pass from center field to Duffy. The Furlong, Pa., native beat her defender and fired from beyond the penalty mark. The captain's shot hit the crossbar but was able to fall into the net for the goal.

Drexel had 18 shots in the game, with ten on target. While Saint Peter's managed just eight shots total. Only two of those shots were on goal.

Saint Peter's was able to take advantage late to tie things up. In the 87th minute, Julia Pinho Magno's shot hit the crossbar just out of reach of Drexel keeper Sammy Widnick. Sydney Ragland got the rebound and put it away for the goal to tie the game at one.

Drexel returns to Vidas Field on Sunday to take on George Washington at 1 p.m.
