Strong Shooting Propels Drexel Past Hofstra, 67-38

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team earned its first conference victory on Sunday afternoon, 67-38. The Dragons improved to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Hofstra fell to 3-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Deja Evans finished with her second straight 20-point performance, shooting 8-for-10 and going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Amaris Baker added 14 points to the stat sheet. Baker was perfect from the line, finishing 4-for-4.
All active players for Drexel found the bottom of the bucket in Sunday's matchup. Emilee Jones finished with five points, tying a career-high. The sophomore also played for a career-high 17 minutes and grabbed five rebounds, also a career-high.
Sunday's 29-point victory was the largest NET point victory at home during conference play since the Dragons defeated UNCW, 72-39 in 2022.
Hofstra's 38 points is tied for the seventh lowest point total at home in conference play in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel opened the game on a 12-1 run in the first 4:30 seconds, leading to a Hofstra timeout. In that span, the Dragons shot 5-for-7 and sank two treys in their three chances. The Dragons closed the quarter with a 10-point lead, 15-5. Baker led the Dragons with seven points.
The Dragons continued their dominant play in the opening minutes of the second quarter, outscoring the Pride, 13-5 in the first 4:45 minutes of play. The Dragons shot 5-for-8 in that span and continued shooting a hot hand from deep, going 2-for-3. Drexel took a 15-point lead into the locker room. Evans paced the Dragons with 13 points. Baker followed shortly behind with 10 points. In the first half, Drexel shot 52 percent form the field in the first 20 minutes.
The third quarter brought more of the same action, as Drexel outscored Hofstra, 19-11, to extend its lead to 23 points. Evans tallied seven points on 3-for-4 shooting and corralled four boards in the 10-minute quarter.
The Dragons outscored Hofstra again in the fourth frame, 14-8. The Dragons shot an efficient 7-for-13 shooting and also held the Pride to just 3-for-19. Iriona Gravley led the Dragons with four points.
UP NEXT
The Dragons head south for Charleston and UNCW on January 16 and the 18th. Drexel opens the weekend of play in South Carolina against the Cougars at 7 p.m., then will travel to Wilmington on Sunday to face the Seahawks at 1 p.m. Both games can be seen on FloCollege.
