Hofstra Tops Drexel, 70-67

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team fell at home to the Hofstra Pride on Saturday, 70-67. Shane Blakeney had 18 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Blakeney finished the night with four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Eli Beard had 12 points, three assists and two steals.
Kevon Vanderhorst finished the night with nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The Dragons took care of the ball, finishing the night with only three turnovers to Hofstra's nine.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half started as a hard-fought offensive battle. Hofstra struck first before the Dragons responded with a Blakeney three with 19:08 remaining. The two teams continued to go back and forth, Victor Panov's three cut the Pride's lead to two, making it 11-9 with 15:02 remaining. Hofstra responded with a 12-3 run before a second-chance layup from Blakeney cut the lead to nine. A free throw from Garfield Turner made it 25-17, Hofstra, with 08:27 remaining. Hofstra went on a 10-2 run before a free throw from Blakeney, and back-to-back layups from Josh Reed cut the lead down to nine with 2:23 remaining. Hofstra led at the half, 40-25.
The Dragons started the second half with a 12-2 run capped off by a Vanderhorst layup at 14:39. A Turner layup made it 44-42, Hofstra with 12:10 left in the half. Hofstra went on a 5-0 run before Turner and Blakeney cut the lead to six with 9:12 remaining. Hofstra pulled away, leading 64-51 with five minutes remaining before free throws from Panov started a 10-4 run. In the final minute of play, Drexel scored nine unanswered points, with Beard's three-pointer cutting the lead to one with 0:16 remaining. Ultimately, the Dragons were unable to complete the comeback, falling 70-67. Drexel shot 53.6% from the field in the second half and held Hofstra to just two three-pointers.
