Drexel Wins Defensive Battle Over Stony Brook, 56-37

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team continued its three-game homestand Thursday evening, winning a defensive battle against the Stony Brook Seawolves, 56-37. Dillon Tingler led the team with a career high of 13 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Tingler finished the night shooting 80% while pulling in five rebounds and stealing the ball twice.
Shane Blakeney scored 11, making this the 13th game this season he has scored over 10 points. He also had four rebounds, three assists and a block.
Victor Panov also scored 11 to go with his eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
The Dragons outrebounded the Seawolves 40-37 and held them to 20.3% shooting on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook struck first, jumping out to a 13-9 lead before a Garfield Turner layup with 13:25 remaining started a 12-0 Drexel run. Eli Beard stole the ball twice in the first half, with one of his steals leading to a Tingler layup at 12:18.
The Seawolves responded with a 6-0 run of their own before a layup from Ralph Akuta kicked of a 9-3 run for the Dragons to end the first half.
The Dragons shot 50% from three in the first half while holding the Seawolves to 23.5%. Drexel also edged out Stony Brook in points off of turnovers 7-5. Off the bench, the Dragons outscored the Seawolves 18-1.
The second half started out with a 4-3 Stony Brook run before Beard extended the lead to 10 at the 17:00 minute mark. Free throws from Panov pushed the lead to 12 before a 5-0 Seawolf run made it 38-31 with just under nine minutes to play. A second chance, Beard gave Drexel a 10 point lead with 8:38 to go.
The Dragons finished the game with an 18-6 run. An and-one from Tingler with four minutes left extended the lead to 16 points. In the second half, Drexel's defense held Stony Brook to only 15 points on 13.3% shooting. This was the lowest number of points allowed by the Dragons since January 7, 2023, when Drexel beat Monmouth 67-35.
