Women's Basketball Rolls Past Hampton, 75-42

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team used an 18-0 first quarter to help defeat the Hampton Pirates, 75-42. It is the largest victory over the Pirates in program history, topping Drexel's 21-point victory over the Pirates on December 5, 2015.

It is also the widest victory margin in conference play since the Dragons defeated UNCW by 33 on February 4, 2022. It is tied for the sixth widest margin since DU joined the CAA.
Amaris Baker scored 24 points in Friday's victory and made 10 field goals. The graduate student added five rebounds and four assists to the stat sheet as well.
Laine McGurk broke double digits once more, scoring 10 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing four assists.
Deja Evans paced Drexel in rebounds with 11.
Grace O'Neill finished with three points, eight rebounds and five assists. The senior became the first Dragon ever to score 600 points, grab 600 rebounds and dish out 350 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel was quick to an 18-0 lead after the first quarter. The Pirates were unsuccessful in all 20 of their field goal attempts in the first 10 minutes of play. Baker scored nine points, while Evans chipped in four points.
Hampton did not score its first point until 42 seconds into the second frame, connecting on a free throw. However, the Drexel defense held the visitors to no field goals until there was 7:34 left in the second quarter. The Pirates went on to score 11 points, but could not contain the Drexel offense, which scored 20 points in the second frame. Hampton shot 5-for-37 in the first half and was 0-for-10 from deep. Drexel was ahead 38-11 at the halfway point.
Hampton outscored Drexel, 20-17, in the third quarter but still trailed the Dragons by 24 points. Baker added eight points to her stat sheet.
Drexel finished the game strong, outscoring Hampton, 20-11 in the fourth quarter to secure a 33-point victory. Emilee Jones and Mariah Watkins led Drexel for the quarter with four points each. Drexel shot 9-for-16 in the final frame and held Monmouth to just 4-for-18.
