Dragons take down Fairfield 2-1 in First Conference Game

Fairfield Ct. – The Dragons won their CAA opener, defeating new conference member Fairfield 2-1. The win brings Drexel to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in CAA play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Valentine Van Hellemont scored both goals for the Dragons, her sixth and seventh of the season, respectively.
Pili Lemoine recorded an assist, giving her five on the year, which leads the team.
The Dragons outshot the Stags 11-6
Both goalies recorded two saves on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons started the scoring off in the middle of the second quarter as Valentine Van Hellemont took a pass from Pili Lemoine before placing the ball between the keeper's legs to put the Dragons up 1-0. Both teams would trade attacking chances for the rest of the second quarter and the third. Fairfield would come even in the fourth as Kaelyn Fogelson would score for the Stags, tying the game at one. The Dragons would waste no time as Van Hellemont would strip a Stags defender before bringing the ball into the circle and rifling a shot across her body and into the back of the cage. Van Hellemont's second goal would be the game winner, pushing the Dragons past the Stags 2-1 in Drexel's first CAA conference-play game.

The Dragons will continue their road trip, taking on Villanova on Sunday, September 20th at 12 p.m. The game will take place at Snell Field Hockey Field at Ursinus.
