Justin Jennings joined the Drexel men's basketball coaching staff in 2016 as an assistant coach after spending two seasons as an assistant on Zach Spiker's staff at Army West Point. Jennings played a key role in the Dragons' success in 2021 as they advanced to their first NCAA Tournament in 25 years.
Jennings works primarily with Drexel's guards. He has played a role in the development of Cam Wynter, who emerged as an All-League player and one of the top players in the Colonial Athletic Association. Wynter was twice named to the CAA's First Team. Jennings has also worked closely with Coletrane Washington, who tied for the CAA lead in three-point percentage. The Dragons shot 37 percent from long range during the 2020-21 CAA championship season, which was second in the CAA, and set the CAA Championships record by shooting 57 percent in the three victories. They also led the league in field-goal percentage. The sixth-year assistant is also responsible for scouting Drexel's opponents and recruiting among his other duties.
In 2015-16, Jennings helped coach the Black Knights to a 19-14 record, tied for best overall record in the Patriot League. The team, which featured four active 1,000-point scorers, also went on to earn Army's first postseason appearance since Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski led the academy to the National Invitation Tournament in 1978.
The 19 wins were the most by Army since the 1977-78 season, and the team’s 11 road wins set a school record. The back-to-back 15-win seasons Jennings assisted with were part of a four-year stretch of 15 or more wins, Army’s first such stretch since the 1920s.
Prior to joining Spiker’s staff, Jennings was the head coach at the United States Military Academy Prep School for three seasons. Jennings guided the team to a 77-18 mark, including a 27-5 record in his final season at the helm. He had spent the three seasons prior to arriving at West Point as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Jennings was a four-year starter at Penn State Behrend, where he finished third all-time in career assists in school history and helped lead the team to two NCAA and two ECAC appearances. He served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Penn State Behrend following the completion of his playing career.
Jennings and his wife, Holly, have two children, Avery and Easton.
