Rob O’Driscoll was Zach Spiker’s first hire at Drexel. After four years as an assistant coach, O’Driscoll was promoted to Chief of Staff in the summer of 2020. O’Driscoll came to University City in April of 2016 following an eight-year stint as the associate head coach at James Madison University. O’Driscoll has helped lead four different Division I programs to the NCAA Tournament, as well as assisted five different Division I programs to conference championships. He has been a part of three conference regular season championships, five conference tournament championships, and 10 postseason berths, including six NCAA Tournament appearances. His latest NCAA appearance came in 2021 as the Dragons won three straight games to win the CAA championship for the first time in school history.
While at Drexel, O’Driscoll has recruited and coached six CAA All-Conference and two All-Rookie team selections, including Cam Wynter, the 2018-19 CAA Rookie of the Year, and 2020-21 CAA Tournament MVP.
Prior to Drexel, O’Driscoll served as Matt Brady’s associate head coach at James Madison University from 2008 to 2016. He was influential in rebuilding a Dukes’ program that had posted eight-straight losing seasons prior to his arrival. He assisted in all aspects of leading and managing the program’s organization and operation. O’Driscoll helped lead JMU to its first Colonial Athletic Association championship in almost two decades in 2013. The Dukes won 21 or more games and made the postseason in four of his eight seasons at the school. JMU defeated LIU-Brooklyn in a First Four game in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, giving the Dukes their first NCAA Tournament win in 30 years. In 2014-15, JMU also won a share of the CAA regular season title. He recruited and coached 10 CAA All-Conference and three All-Rookie Team selections, including the 2008-09 CAA Rookie of the Year.
Before arriving at JMU, O’Driscoll was Brady’s top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for four years at Marist from 2004 through 2008. O’Driscoll helped rebuild a program that was 6-22 the season prior to his arrival and assisted in improving its win total in each of the first three seasons. He played a vital role in the development of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year and NBA draft pick Jared Jordan. The Red Foxes were 73-50 during his tenure in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. O’Driscoll helped Marist win the MAAC regular-season title in 2006-07 as the Red Foxes finished 25-9. They earned a bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Oklahoma State in Stillwater. It was the first postseason win in school history. He recruited seven MAAC All-Conference, two All-Rookie team performers including the 2007-08 Rookie of the Year.
O’Driscoll spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Iona College under Jeff Ruland from 1998-2004. During that time, the Gaels won back-to-back MAAC Championships and NCAA berths in 1999-2000 and 2000-01. Iona was 98-81 (.547) during his tenure on the Iona bench. O’Driscoll recruited and coached 14 MAAC All-Conference selections and three All-Rookie Team players, including the 1999-2000 MAAC Player of the Year. He also worked under John Leonard at Manhattan from 1996-98.
O’Driscoll began his coaching career in 1994 as an administrative assistant for Steve Lappas at Villanova. The Wildcats were ranked in the final top-10 rankings in back-to-back seasons and won the Big East Championship in 1995.
The Newtown Square, Pa. native graduated from Villanova in 1994 with a degree in accounting before earning his MBA from the school in 1997. O’Driscoll earned three varsity letters as a member of the Villanova tennis team and was named to the Big East All-Academic Team.
In March of 2016, just prior to coming to Drexel, O’Driscoll was named as one of 30 assistant coaches ready to run their own programs by Collegeinsider.com.
