Winston Smith is in his second season as Drexel’s coordinator of basketball operations. Smith came to University City after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Saint Francis of Pennsylvania. His responsibilities at Drexel include team travel, organizing team purchases, assisting with on-campus recruiting and monitoring the basketball program. Smith also directs the Drexel University All-Star Camp.
Smith was an assistant women’s coach at Hofstra for one season before joining the Saint Francis’ staff and helped the Pride reach its first-ever NCAA Division I postseason appearance. He also served as an assistant coach at Youngstown State for two seasons and worked for three seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson as an assistant director of basketball operations and an assistant coach.
Smith played for Bruiser Flint as an undergraduate at UMass. He was the team captain as a senior and earned the Top Defender Award and the Mr. Hustle Award during his days in Amherst. The Minutemen made three postseason appearances with Smith on the team, including a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament. A native of Summit, N.J., Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology in 2001.
