Chris Collins was named to Head Coach Brian Voelker’s staff during the summer of 2009. Collins serves as the team’s defensive coordinator and goalie coach. He is also responsible for scouting and recruiting among his other duties.
Since his arrival at Drexel, Collins has worked with and developed Drexel’s goalkeepers. Mark Manos, who played for the Charlotte Hounds after graduation, was an All-American under Collins’ watch and Jimmy Joe Granito was a First Team All-CAA selection. He has aided in the development of Will Gabrielsen, who won a pair of games in the 2014 CAA Tournament, including the championship game, and stymied Penn in Drexel’s NCAA Tournament win. Other professional players Collins coached include Dana Wilber of the Ohio Machine and Garrett McIntosh of the Calgary Roughnecks.
Collins was an assistant coach at Delaware from 2006-2009. He was the team’s goalie coach and the offensive assistant during that stretch. In 2007, he was part of the Delaware staff that led the Blue Hens to the Colonial Athletic Association championship and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in school history. He has also been a speaker at the IMLCA convention on his goaltending philosophy.
In August of 2015, Collins was one of just 23 players selected to play for the U.S. Men's Indoor National Team in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Championship. Team USA won a bronze medal at the 2015 championships played in Syracuse, N.Y.
Since graduating from Delaware, Collins has spent the last 11 years as a goaltender in the Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League. He played five seasons with the Washington Bayhawks of the MLL. He also played for the Chicago Machine during the 2010 MLL season and played the following year with the Boston Cannons. He is a
current member of the NLL’s Expansion Philadelphia Wings. Collins has also player for the New England Blackwolves, the New York Titans, and the Original Philadelphia Wings. The Yorktown, N.Y. native has also played three seasons in the Canadian Summer Pro Indoor Circuit in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League as a member of the Vermont Voyageurs. Last season, Collins played in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) with the Langley Thunder.
Collins graduated in 2005 with a degree in physical education and a minor in coaching after a standout career in Newark. He has named an Honorable Mention All-America as a senior, when he led the Blue Hens to an 11-6 record, the CAA regular-season championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. A three-year starter and captain, Collins was twice named to the All-CAA Second Team. He set school records for single-season (7.56) and career goals against average (8.64) and is fourth all time at Delaware with 554 saves. Collins, who was the team's Most Valuable Player in 2005, appeared in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star game after his senior season. Collins was named to the All-CAA 25th Anniversary team and was named Delaware's 60th anniversary team.
Collins and his wife, Emily, live in Philadelphia. He remains active in his community furthering the growth of the game of both boys and girls lacrosse at all levels.
