Kylie McKenzie joined Drexel Athletics in August 2016. She recently completed her second season in 2017-18 with men’s and women’s swimming and diving as an assistant coach.
“Her passion for the sport and positive approach to coaching will have major impacts on our program,” said head coach Adam Braun. “Her experience at Emory, winning four national championships and being a part of such a winning culture, will help us continue to build those traditions here at Drexel.”
McKenzie graduated from Emory University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and minors in predictive health and anthropology. She is currently pursuing graduate studies in human nutrition from Drexel University.
As a collegiate student-athlete, McKenzie represented Emory women’s swimming for four years and served as a senior co-captain. McKenzie earned six All-America honors at Emory and achieved Honorable Mention All-America status once. Emory won four UAA conference team titles and four NCAA DIII national championship team titles during McKenzie’s days in the water.
During her time at Emory, McKenzie was involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for four years, serving as president her senior year. McKenzie received the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for her athletic, academic and volunteer achievements during her collegiate years.
McKenzie started her swimming career as an age group swimmer in Lower Bucks Swim League and Suburban Aquatic League in Lower Makefield, Pa. She swam her first two years of high school in Acton, Mass. and earned MIAA state finalist honors. After returning to Pennsylvania, she swam club for Tri-Hampton YMCA under Dave Prutow. She was a YMCA national qualifier and finalist.
Prior to her appointment at Drexel, McKenzie worked in supply chain management in Atlanta, Ga. Most recently, she served as a volunteer assistant coach for The College of New Jersey’s varsity swimming and diving programs for the 2015-2016 season, as an assistant coach for RWJ Hamilton Aquatics in Hamilton, N.J. and as a certified CrossFit trainer in Newtown, Pa. McKenzie coached for the Emory Community Swimming Club in Atlanta for four years. She competed as a beach lifeguard for the last three summers in Brigantine, N.J.
McKenzie hails from a swimming family as her brother, Shane, swam at the University of Notre Dame and her brother, Brandon, currently swims at MIT.
