Krista Van Wert returns to Drexel Field this season as an assistant coach on Kim Camara’s staff. After a successful four-year career at Drexel, Van Wert worked on the
co-op portion of her Drexel degree last year in the Philadelphia area. As an assistant coach this season, Van Wert will work primarily with pitchers and the infield.
During her playing career from 2002-05, Van Wert was one of Drexel's top starters. Her best performance came during her senior season when she posted an 11-6 record and helped the team qualify for the conference tournament for the first time since joining the CAA. She finished 10th in the nation with an 0.84 earned-run average that year, was an All-Conference selection and named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.
In addition to pitching, Van Wert also played reliably at shortstop for Drexel, posting a .948 fielding percentage and leading the team in assists as a senior. She brings to the bench a tie to Drexel’s proud softball tradition and a reminder of its resurgence in recent years.
Van Wert is a Yardley, Pa. native and she attended Pennsbury High School. She graduated from Drexel with a degree in biology.
