Stacy Weiss returns to the women’s basketball program for her 18th season with the Dragons' staff and her 14th in a coaching capacity. On April 10, 2020, Weiss was elevated to Associate Head Coach by Head Coach Amy Mallon.
Weiss' fifth season as associate head coach of the Drexel women's basketball team, the Dragons finished 17-13, tying for third in conference play. Working primarily with the guards, Weiss helped develop First Team All-CAA honoree, Amaris Baker, who finished the season leading the CAA with 17.1 points per game. On Nov. 13, the Dragons defeated La Salle on Nov. 13, 73-40 to earn the program its first victory as members of the Philadelphia Big 5. The home game was one of the 12 home games that Drexel won during the season, marking a 12-2 record inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
In 2023-24, Weiss helped guide the Dragons to their third CAA Title after completing a seven-game win streak to end the season. In part, Drexel pushed its postseason streak to 10 straight years. The Dragons completed its historic run by defeating No. 10 Delaware in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals, where they would have a postseason rematch, with the No. 2 Monmouth Hawks defeating them, 58-56, to earn a spot in the conference semifinals against Towson. In the semis, Drexel hit a buzzer-beater with three seconds remaining to down the Tigers and face the top-seeded Stony Brook. The Dragons defeated the Seawolves 68-60. Drexel entered the NCAA Tournament as the 16th seed and played the top-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas.
Weiss helped oversee the development of one of the top seasons in program history as Keishana Washington was named an All-American by the WBCA, AP and USBWA and was a finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year and the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year. The team overall enjoyed continued success as the Dragons posted their sixth consecutive full season with 20 or more wins and went to their ninth consecutive national postseason tournament.
Her second season as Associate Head Coach, Drexel went 28-6, tying for the most wins in program history and setting a new standard for fewest losses. Drexel enjoyed a 14-game winning streak during the year and had three players named to All-Conference teams. The Dragons won the CAA regular season championship and advanced to the WNIT Sweet 16, a run that included a 17-point, fourth quarter comebaack against Bucknell in the Second Round. Drexel was third in NCAA Division I in fewest turnovers with 11.1 per game and led the CAA in scoring defense, holding opponents to 56.3 points per game.
In her first season in her new role, Weiss proved to be an invaluable asset as she helped Mallon lead the Dragons to a CAA Championship title for the first time in over a decade and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in program history. The Dragons made an improbable run in 2021 behind a 14-9 record, beating top-seeded Delaware in the CAA Championship after holding the No. 4 seed heading into the postseason. The end to the Dragons unforgettable season came at the hands of No. 3 Georgia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Weiss spent her first four seasons as the coordinator of basketball operations before transitioning to an assistant coach prior to the 2012-13 campaign. She also previously served as the program’s recruiting coordinator from 2015-20.
A 2008 Drexel graduate, Weiss completed her playing career that year and joined the program’s staff. For four years, she was responsible for day-to-day operations of the office as well as coordinating many elements of the team’s travel and practice schedule.
Weiss assumed a new role within the program prior to the 2012-13 season. Her leadership ability and familiarity with the program made her a natural addition to the coaching staff in an assistant's position and had already proven invaluable in recruiting. She also continued to help facilitate team travel and meal arrangements, as well as practice schedules and equipment distribution.
During her playing career, Weiss was one of the program’s hardest working student-athletes. After joining the team as a walk-on in 2004-05, Weiss steadily improved each season. She worked her way back from a knee injury as a junior to rejoin the team. As a senior, Weiss earned the team’s Spirit/Leadership Award. She stepped in as a starter in the backcourt when Andrea Peterson went down with an injury four games into the season. After starting just nine games in career to that point, Weiss started in 24 of the 25 contests in which she played as a senior and bested her career totals in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals while averaging 25 minutes per game.
Weiss, née McCullough, graduated with a Bachelor degree in business administration with a concentration in legal studies and a minor in psychology. She and her husband, Pat, were married in August 2018.
