Josh Dziewa is in his fifth season in 2020-21 with the Dragons after joining the Drexel Wrestling staff in September 2016 as an assistant coach under head coach Matt Azevedo.

Dziewa has helped Drexel Wrestling continue its ascent onto the national scene. His first season saw the Dragons earn their first USA Today/NWCA DI Coaches Poll ranking of Azevedo’s tenure. Dziewa’s second season saw the Dragons finish the regular season in the top 25 of four major wrestling polls for the first time in program history. The Dragons had back-to-back seasons with 12 or more wins for the first time in more than a decade, doing so in 2016-17 and 2017-18. Drexel has placed 21 wrestlers at EIWA Championships and sent 17 wrestlers to NCAAs in his first four years.

Academically, Drexel has finished as a National Wrestling Coaches Association DI Top 30 All-Academic Team in each of Dziewa’s first four seasons and has boasted the nation’s best team GPA in each of the last two years. The Dragons have received 15 NWCA Academic All-America individual selections and 28 EIWA All-Academic Team selections during Dziewa’s watch.

Dziewa came to Drexel after serving as the Director of Operations for Penn Wrestling during the 2015-16 season. His responsibilities in this role included coordinating all of Penn Wrestling’s operational needs, including travel arrangements, video scouting, camp and clinic registration and recruiting. In addition, he also served as Penn’s liaison to the Beat the Streets program.

A two-time NCAA qualifier for Iowa, Dziewa finished his career there with an 84-26 record. In his senior season, he was runner-up at the Big Ten Championships at 141 pounds and finished the year with a 29-9 record.

Dziewa was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, was named to the NWCA All-Academic team in 2015 and received Iowa’s J. Donald McPike, Sr. Award as the senior wrestler with the highest GPA.

A Yardley, Pa. native, Dziewa attended Council Rock South High School where he posted a career record of 124-7 and was a state champion. Dziewa graduated from Iowa in 2015 with a degree in recreation and sports business.
