Mike Dynda was named the head golf coach at Drexel in 2003. Dynda also teaches golf instruction at Meadowlands Golf Academy. He previously served as the Director of Instruction at Blue Bell Country Club and has been a Class A member of The PGA of America since 1991. In 2005, he was awarded the Philadelphia PGA Teacher of the Year by his peers.
The Dragons have become much more of a factor in the competitive Colonial Athletic Association since Dynda’s arrival in the fall of 2003. Drexel has played a much more difficult schedule, has traveled to some of the top tournaments in the nation and has toppled virtually every school record. In the spring of 2015, the Dragons played in the Seattle University and Liberty University tournaments in back-to-back weeks. The Seattle tournament was played at Chambers Bay, the home of the 2015 U.S. Open. Drexel closed the year with a seventh-place finish at the CAA Championships. Chris Crawford was named to the All-Tournament Team and later became Drexel’s first CAA Player of the Year.
During the 2012-13 season, Dynda led the men's golf team to a fourth-place performance at the CAA Championships. It was the highest finish for the team in the Championships since joining the league prior to the 2002 season. He was named CAA Coach of the Year for his performance, while Crawford also earned the league's Rookie of the Year honors. The Dragons placed first at the Swarthmore Open and also earned second place finishes at the Lafayette Invitational and the Longwood/Manor Collegiate on the season.
In 2011-12, Dynda had two of his players, Ben Feld and James Braunsberg, compete at the 112th Amateur Championship Qualifier. Feld, who became Dynda’s assistant after graduation, advanced to the semi-finals.
In the fall of 2009, the Dragons had three top 10 individual finishers on their way to a first place finish in the St. Bonaventure Keenan Invitational. The Dragons placed first in the nine-team field at the Lehigh Kelly Gutshall Invitational, while Drexel’s Kyle Davis claimed medalist honors. In the final competition before the CAA’s, Dynda led the Dragons to a triumph at the Swarthmore Invitational as James Braunsberg and Kyle Davis shared medalist honors. No Drexel golfer finished lower than tied for sixth place as the Dragons dominated the three-team, 28-player field.
During the spring of 2008, Dynda led a charge toward the CAA Championship as the Dragons led the tournament after the first round before finally succumbing to eventual champion Georgia State. For the first time since joining the CAA, Drexel placed a golfer on the conference’s All-Championship Team as Sean Semenetz finished fifth in the tournament. The 2008 run should wasn’t a surprise as the Dragons played solid golf throughout the season, including a win at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational and a second-place finish among 25 schools at the Lafayette Invitational. The victory at Rehoboth Beach marked the third straight season the Dragons triumphed at the event.
In 2005-06, Dynda’s team set school records for the lowest score in a round, in a tournament and in a three-round tournament. Drexel shot a school-best 273, led by then freshman Semenetz’s 63, at the James Madison Invitational and won the St. Bonaventure Invitational with a 575. Keith Snyder became the school's first All-CAA pick after earning medalist honors in three tournaments during the year as well as earning Academic All-American honors. In his second season at the school, Dynda’s squad fired a 288 at the James Madison Invitational. The Dragons also set a school record at the same tournament with their lowest three-day total (868) at the time. The Dragons best finish was a second place showing at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational. Drexel had two medalists during the season, with Patrick Hardin winning at the Old Dominion/Seascape Tournament and Joe April closing the season with a victory at the Scotty Duncan Memorial Tournament.
In his first season at Drexel, Dynda’s team took home a first-place finish at the Yale Invitational with a combined score of 590. The Dragons also shot what was then a single-round record 288 at Yale. Drexel finished second at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational.
Dynda is regarded as one of the top teachers in the area. He has a wealth of golf experience and has served as both a head and assistant professional at clubs throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. Dynda was the head golf professional at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford and served as the assistant professional at both Kennett Square Golf and Country Club and at Blue Bell, as well as serving his apprenticeship at Rolling Green and Aronimink Golf Clubs.
He has worked closely with some of the top golf talents throughout the region. Most recently, Dynda coached Lisa Strom to a tie for seventh-place with Michelle Wie at the LPGA Qualifying School helping Strom land her 2009 LPGA Tour card. He also serves as a short game coach to several players on the LPGA Tour as well as top amateurs in the area.
Dynda showed that he is not only one of the top coaches in the area, but he can still play as well. Dynda qualified at West Shore Country Club for the 95th Pennsylvania Open in July of 2011. He fired a 75, which tied him for 16th overall. In September, he competed at the 2011 Philadelphia PGA Championship along with Hall of Famer Tom Carpus. In June of 2012, Dynda narrowly missed advancing through the 2012 USGA Open Qualifier held on the Back Creek Golf Course. Dynda tied for eighth place overall with a 74.
