Miranda Ervin, who enters her third season as head coach of the Dragons, joined the Drexel coaching staff in July of 2012. Ervin comes to the Dragons after spending two years at the helm of the Queens University program in Charlotte, N.C.
Last season, Ervin guided the Dragons to a 17-27 overall finish and went 4-14 in conference action. The squad took a game from 2014 CAA champion James Madison in their home conference series with the Dukes. Drexel also earned victories against UNCW, Delaware, and Towson in conference play during the season.
In her first season with Drexel, Ervin and the Dragons went 15-36 on the year and 2-19 against CAA opponents. The team’s two conference wins both came on the road against UNCW.
Ervin took over the Dragons after a successful two-year run at Queens University. There, she guided the Royals to a 50-43 overall record, including the program's first 30-win season in six years when it went 30-24 this spring. Ervin, who started at Queens as an assistant in 2008 working with the pitchers and catchers, helped pitcher Chantel Dodge to two Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year awards, including one last season when Dodge was a senior.
It was not just Dodge who benefited under Ervin's tutelage during her tenure at Queens. During her final season as an assistant in 2010, Ervin guided a staff which ranked as high as tenth in the nation in strikeouts, leading the Royals to the Conference Carolinas championship and a semifinal appearance in NCAA Regional action.
Ervin also coaches with the Carolina Diamonds of the National Pro Fast Pitch League.
A Huntersville, N.C. native, Ervin is a 2007 graduate of North Carolina State University, where she earned a degree in communications media with a minor in parks, recreation and tourism management. While in Raleigh, Ervin was a four-year starter as the Wolfpack's catcher. During her junior season, she helped N.C. State defeat Pacific with a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam. She appeared in 222 career games, collecting 168 hits and 26 home runs.
Ervin went on to play professionally with Team Fiorini in Fiorini, Italy, where she also served as an assistant coach. Several of her teammates who she has coached had been members of the Italian Olympic Softball team. Ervin has also played with the Michigan Ice Professional Softball Team, pitching for the Ice during the 2007 season.
