College Park, Md. – Senior Brett Molash, sophomore Jake Roberson and Kate Hynes finished among the top-eight places in the preliminary round of competition to qualify for finals on day one of the Maryland Terrapin Cup Invitational.
In the 1-meter dive Molash and Roberson placed second (245.75) and seventh (215.40), respectively, to qualify for finals. The diving duo returned to final competition, with Molash earning third place and Roberson finishing sixth. Both divers improved their scores, Molash posting a 247.45 and Roberson earning (220.20).
In the women's diving competition Hynes continued her winning ways, taking the preliminary 3-meter dive with 286.20 points, edging runner-up, Liza Marianni of Connecticut (284.45). Hynes completed the victory by winning the 3-meter final with 282.00 points.
Also competing well in the preliminaries was junior freestyle specialist, Katie McCann, who recorded a personal best in the 500 freestyle. Her finishing time of 5:02.40 is the second-fastest time swam by a Dragon in that event. McCann qualified for the non-scoring bonus consolation heat, and finished in 5:06.50.
In the relay events, the Dragon men finished 14th of 26 teams in the 400 medley relay. The team of Ian MacKinnon, Adrian Sabovici, Mert Karsiyakalilar and Barbaros Cem Pasaoglu swam to a 3:29.61 finish. Drexel's Katelyn Muenker, Sarah Keeley, Kaitlin Slowey and McCann teamed up in the women's 400 medley relay and finished in 4:03.28.
Keeley and Slowey joined Caitlin Mulholland and Maureen Hanlon in the 200 freestyle relay and posted a 1:42.72. Drexel's Michael Morrison, Cem Karali, MacKinnon and Pasaoglu completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.10 to finish 13th.
The Drexel swimming and diving team will compete Friday, Nov. 19, with preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m. and final competition taking place at 6:00 p.m.
