2/16/2006 12:00:00 AM
The Dragons struggled from the floor for most of the night. Despite shooting just 29 percent from the floor in the first half and missing an unusual amount of open shots, the Dragons trailed by just six at 26-20. Drexel stayed in the game for the most part by controlling the boards in the early stages, outrebounding the Patriots, 24-16 in the half.
Mason's Jai Lewis stepped up in the second half and carried the Patriots on their way to a big lead. The senior scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. Mason had four players finish in double figures scoring.
For the game, Drexel shot just 32 percent and had only three assists. Dominick Mejia (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) had a team-high 13 points, while freshman Scott Rodgers (Philadelphia, Pa./Centra) chipped in with a career-high 10 points. Chaz Crawford (Philadelphia, Pa./Hargrave Military Academy) led Drexel with 10 rebounds and added five blocked shots.
Kenell Sanchez and Mason's Tony Skinn were each ejected after an altercation late in the second half.
Drexel returns home to face Vermont on Saturday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
