Philadelphia, Pa. - Narissa Suber broke Drexel's career record for three-pointers and tied the Dragons' single-game mark with eight from distance. She finished with a career-high 27 points but Delaware came out on top, 75-61, stretching the Blue Hens' win streak over Drexel to 16 games.
Tyresa Smith, who beat the Dragons on a last-second put back in the teams' first meeting this season, led Delaware with 19 points. Courtney Irving and Melissa Czorniewy added 16 points, Irving also had eight rebounds and shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.
The Blue Hens opened the game with a 13-2 run and never looked back, shooting a lights-out 62.5 percent in the period including 71.4 percent from deep. The Dragons would come back to cut the lead to 10 points at 26-16, on Suber's record-tying three-pointer but that would be as close as Drexel would get for the duration. Delaware led 41-26 after a half in which it missed just nine shots (15-24) and Drexel made only nine (9-26).
Suber's record-setting trey came at the 2:50 mark in the first period, knocking down a shot from the left side of the arc off a feed from Jackie Falson. She went on to hit five more in the second half to set the team's high-scoring mark for the season with 27 points. She tied Ola Snytsina's single-game record of eight threes, set on Feb. 26, 2004, with 5:35 left in the game.
Catherine Scanlon quietly collected her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Delaware's quick zone defense kept Scanlon out of the lane for much of the game, which limited Drexel to just eight points in the paint to the Blue Hens' 22. Delaware finished the game shooting 59.5 percent from the floor, the best any team has shot against Drexel this season.
Jackie Falson chipped in with seven points, five assists and just one turnover in the game, as Drexel finished with a season-low-tying seven turnovers. The Dragons were outrebounded 36-26, but doubled Delaware's six boards on the offensive glass.
The Dragons look for revenge against Hofstra on Sunday. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet at 2:00 p.m.
