The Dragons ten goals set a new school record for tallies in a game
Philadelphia – Drexel field hockey won its third straight game with a 10-0 victory over St. Francis (Pa.). The Dragons' ten goals set a new school record for tallies in a game. The previous record was set in 1992 when Drexel scored seven times against both Georgetown and Hofstra. Freshman Jordan Freese (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) registered a natural hat trick with three goals in the first half. Freese's hat trick is the second by a Drexel player this season as Catherine Chiara (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored three times in the season opener against Rutgers. With the loss, the Red Flash dropped to 0-3 while the Dragons remain perfect at 3-0.
Drexel opened the scoring with Freese's first goal of the game at 6:47 of the first half. The Dragons would fire seven more into the cage by halftime to go to intermission with a comfortable 8-0 lead. Drexel would add two more in the second half to win the non-conference game, 10-0.
Junior Casey Mouser (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) tallied two goals and an assist while Chiara scored a goal and contributed a pair of assists. The sophomore has now scored at least one goal and registered at least four points in each of Drexel's three games this season.
Colleen McAndrew (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) went unchallenged in the first half to earn the victory in the cage. Krystle Nagle (Laurel Run, Pa./Coughlin) and Linsey Manket (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Academy) each made appearances in goal for the Dragons with Manket making Drexel's lone save on a diving stop of a Annie Paccione deflection to preserve the shutout. Erin Reifsteck made 13 saves for the Red Flash before being replaced by Kristen Onto late in the second half.
Drexel will play its first road game of the season when the Dragons will face cross-town rival Villanova on Sept. 6. Game time is 7 p.m.
