Athens, Ga. – The Dragon divers concluded competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational last night with a strong performance in the 1-meter shootout. Drexel sophomore, Kate Hynes, earned a third-place finish in the shootout to cap her successful performance at the meet.
Of the 12 divers that advance from preliminary competition, the top-six finishers in finals qualify for the shootout. Each athlete performs their dive of choice and the lowest-scoring diver at the completion of each round is eliminated until a champion is determined. Hynes' third-place finish in the shootout marks her highest placing in final competition after notching a fifth-place finish on day one in the 3-meter springboard and a fourth-place finish yesterday in the 1-meter diving final.
Head diving coach and reigning CAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Larry May, led Hynes, Brett Molash and Jake Roberson to successful performances at the prestigious event against diving powerhouses from the Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, and the Southeastern Conference.
The Dragons will return to the boards on Saturday, January 13, at 2 p.m. when they host Binghamton at Drexel Pool.
