Men's Soccer Shutout at Northeastern
10/28/2007 3:55:55 PM | Men's Soccer
Boston, Mass. – Northeastern scored twice in the first half and despite a furious offensive effort, Drexel could not come from behind as the Dragons suffered their first conference road loss of the season, 2-0. The Dragons (9-4-2, 6-2 CAA) peppered Northeastern keeper Mahmoud Talaat with seven shots on goal, but the Huskies' goalie stopped every one.
Greg Kilkenny, the CAA's top assist man, ended up on the other side of the first score, converting a penalty kick in less than three minutes into the match to put the Huskies on top. Northeastern took a 2-0 lead by the 20th minute on blast by Ahmed Talaat from 20 yards out. Entering the game, Drexel had allowed just three goals in conference matches all season and keeper Cory Robertson had let up only four in his nine starts.
Drexel outshot Northeastern 20-13 and forced Talaat to make five of his seven stops in the second period when Drexel outshot the Huskies 13-6. The Dragons also earned four corner kicks to the Huskies' two but failed to capitalize. The victory improves Northeastern's record to 6-8-1 and 4-3-1 in conference play.
Drexel will have its chance to recover from the back-to-back losses this weekend as the Dragons' final three matches are on the friendly turf of Vidas Field. The first match of the stretch run is set for a 7:00 p.m. start next Friday against William & Mary.
