Drexel Defense Too Much for Tribe as Field Hockey Wins on the Road, 2-0

Williamsburg, Va. - The Drexel field hockey team scored a 2-0 win at William & Mary as the Dragons improved to 3-1 in Colonial Athletic Association action this season. The Drexel defense stymied the Tribe and the Dragons have now allowed just two goals in four conference games this season. The loss dropped William & Mary to 6-6 overall this season and 1-3 in the CAA while Drexel is in third place in the conference with a 3-1 mark and a 7-6 overall record.
Drexel's Amanda Kicera scored less than five minutes into the game as she deflected a Carolina Gibernau shot into the cage to give the Dragons an early lead. Drexel could not add to the lead in the first half despite outshooting the Tribe, 6-2, and outcornering William & Mary, 2-0. The second half featured more of the same from Drexel as the Dragons continued to attack to add to their lead. Drexel finally put the game out of reach with less than four minutes remaining when Emily Horvat scored off a penalty corner as she sent the ball into the cage while planted in front of the left post. Kicera was credited with the assist on the play.
Drexel's Colleen McAndrew made three saves in recording her second conference shutout ot the season. Also solid on defense for the Dragons were senior Casey Mouser and Whitney Enck. The pair have played every minute of Drexel's four conference games and have helped McAndrew record a 0.50 goals agsinst average versus conference foes in 2007. William & Mary's Gwen Hunter made 11 saves on the night.
The win puts Drexel on a collision course with No. 13 Old Dominion, the Dragons' next opponent. The Lady Monarchs, who are perfect in conference play this season, will host Drexel on Sunday, Oct. 7.
