Drexel Dominates on the Schuylkill

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel crew got its spring season underway this weekend on the Schuylkill and recorded two first-place finishes.
The men's varsity eight, consisting of Danielle Bowers, Doug Allcorn, Alan Fody, Mike Krantz, Vince Zapisek, Austin Barolin, Chris Hillenbrand, Terry Mascitelli and Michael Sausa, crossed the line first in 6:13 to defeat Lehigh and Delaware. The men's second varsity eight also opened their season with a victory, completing the course in 6:36. The team of Chris Laizure, Tim Bohinski, Michael Niles, Jon Klenk, Michael Gartland, Jon Holland, Andrew Preston, Ryan Dorr, and Eric Shoyer defeated Lehigh, who finished second with a time of 6:54.79.
In the women's competition Drexel's varsity four took home a runner-up finish, clocking in at 8:47.50. The team of Jill Allenbaugh, Rose Morowitz, Ilalee Harrison, Heather Strittmatter, and Julie Jenkinson finished just behind cross-town rival, St. Joseph's (8:36.85). The team of Elizabeth Adler, Sarah Grogan, Kate McLaughlin, Catherine Scanlon, Chelsea Nowakowski, Vanessa Clifford, Demi Del Valle, Jahneva Harrison, and Eden Ginn raced to a third-place finish in the women's varsity eight competition. The Dragons finished in 7:32.20 behind Saint Joseph's (7:13.60) and Lehigh (7:29.50).
The Drexel crew returns to action on Saturday, March 24, at the Murphy Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill.
