Newark, Del. - Drexel rookie Gabriela Marginean has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year. The CAA also honored Marginean as a member of the All-Rookie Team and the All-Conference Third Team at its annual pre-tournament awards banquet.
Marginean was the only rookie ranked in the conference's top 10 in scoring and rebounding. She lead Drexel in both categories this year. The CAA named Marginean its Rookie of the Week four times this season and she earned Co-Player of the Week as well as Rookie of the Week on Feb. 24 after her record-breaking 47-point, 22-rebound performance in Drexel's 5OT game against Northeastern on Feb. 22, 2007.
Marginean is Drexel's first Rookie of the Year since Catherine Scanlon won the award after the 2002-03 season. In addition, Kira Karlstrom, Kelly Golden and Anna Karlsson earned All-Academic Team honors.
Marginean leads the Dragons into CAA Tournament play against Georgia State at noon on Thursday, March 8 at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware.
