Drexel Athletics would like to congratulate ESPN's Chris McKendry for her work at Wimbledon the past few weeks. McKendry, who played tennis during her undergraduate days at Drexel, hosted ESPN2's “Complete Wimbledon” during the tournament, which concluded on Sunday, July 15. The show, which was shown in prime time, served as an evening wrap-up to the days play at the All England Club.
“We are especially proud of Chris for the exposure she received on a national stage. She has become a great ambassador for the sport of tennis, but also a role model for women who want to be involved in the media side of sports” said Laura White, Senior Woman Administrator and Associate Athletic Director at Drexel University.
“As a former collegiate tennis player I followed Wimbledon and Chris closely over this 'fortnight.' Chris is very talented. Her success is a great example of Drexel's vision of 'learning by doing,' that is, transferring her experience from the tennis court to the television studio” added Drexel's athletic director Dr. Eric Zillmer.
“I reflect on my experience at Drexel tennis and Drexel University with pride and feel that my education has prepared me to venture into this exciting world of ESPN,” said McKendry when contacted at home. McKendry, who is married to Eduardo Andrade and has two children, continues to be an anchor for ESPN's Sport Center show, which is the worldwide leader in sports television.
Venus Williams won the women's title, while Roger Federer won for the fifth-straight time on the men's side, matching the record set by Bjorn Borg. It was his 11th- major championship.
