Philadelphia, Pa. – Anthony Bafile (West Chester, Pa.,/Henderson) scored in the 83rd minute as Drexel posted a 1-0 win against Rider in the Drexel Invitational Tournament. The Dragons remained undefeated on the season as their record improved to 2-0-2. Temple won the tournament by virtue of its two victories. The Dragons, who tied Howard on Friday, were 1-0-1 in the tournament.
Bafile raced down the right side and gained control of the feed from Nate Baker (Andover, Mass./Andover). Randall Zapolski, Rider's goalkeeper, tried to get to the ball before Bafile, but the sophomore beat him to it and put it in the far corner of the open net. Rider had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds. The Broncs (0-3) had a corner and the ball got to Cameron Bertel at the top center of the box. His shot, with just under 10 seconds to play, hit the crossbar as the Dragons were able to escape with the victory.
Derrec Mongan made four saves in recording his second shutout of the season. Zapolski made three saves for the Broncs. Drexel's Fabio Assumpcao (Alves, Brazil) was named the Offensive MVP in the tournament, while Temple's Mackenson Altidor was the Defensive MVP.
