Jersey City, N.J. - Rumen Kerekov scored on a header in the 78th minute as St. Peter's edged Drexel 1-0 in a tight match Saturday afternoon. The loss evens Drexel's record at 2-2-2 on the season with one match remaining in non-conference play. St. Peter's improved to 5-2 on the season.
The match was hotly contested on a rainy afternoon in Jersey City. The Peacocks narrowly outshot Drexel 14-11 and outcornered the Dragons 3-2. Seven cards were handed out in the second half of the tight match.
Kerekov's goal was set up by a corner kick taken by Chris DeAbreu. Sophomore Athony Bafile, standing on the goal line, appeared to head the ball away just as it approached the goal. But the official signaled that the ball had crossed the plane of the goal and was, in fact, a score.
The Dragons are back in action at home next Saturday, Sept. 29, facing Iona at 6:00 p.m.
