Philadelphia – Carly Snyder (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored on a feed from Aleka Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) early in the second overtime period as Drexel came from behind to defeat UMBC, 2-1, at Vidas Field. It was the home opener for the Dragons, who evened their record at 1-1.
Yiantsos fed Snyder just inside the middle of the box. The sophomore then fired a shot past UMBC keeper Catie Bukowski into the upper left corner for the game-winning goal.
UMBC (0-3) had its chances to win the contest in the first overtime period. Michelle Worrest blasted a shot from right outside the box that hit the cross bar and Meagan Rivera tried to convert the rebound, but her shot went wide.
UMBC took the lead in the 34th minute when Jessica Young scored on a pass from Arielle Tagger. The Retrievers held the lead at the half, before Drexel tied the contest in the 56th minute. Drexel was awarded a penalty kick and Yiantsos converted for her first goal of the year and the 12th of her career. With the three points tonight, Yaiantsos now has 38 career points, which tied her for fourth on the school's career scoring list.
