Men's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match to East Carolina at VCU Invitational

Richmond, Va. - Drexel bounced back from an opening-match loss to the host Virgnia Commonwealth to give the East Carolina Pirates all they could handle in a 3-2 loss. Omar Laalej and newcomer Nick Bacchus won at first and third singles, respectively. The Dragons finish their trip to the VCU 4x1 Invitational with a match against Campbell on Saturday morning.
Laalej continued his strong play after a solid fall season, winning 6-1, 7-6 (5) over Henrik Skalmerud. Bacchus, who played his first match with the Dragons yesterday, won his first collegiate contest 6-3, 7-5 over Stephen Whitwell.
Drexel closed out the invitational with a 5-0 loss to Campbell on Sunday. Nicholas Bacchus went three sets with Larbi Lamzouri at third singles before falling 6-2, 5-7, 10-7.
The Dragons are back in action on Feb. 9 when they face Morgan State at the RiverWinds Tennis Center.
