Women's Varsity Eight Takes Fifth at Season Opening Navy Day Regatta

Philadelphia - Drexel women's rowing opened the 2008-09 season with a fifth-place finish out of 11 boats at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The Dragons' junior varsity eight boat captured fourth place out of 11 entrants while the novice eight claimed eighth of 20 boats at the regatta.
The Drexel varsity eight took fifth behind Navy, Georgetown, Penn and Saint Joseph's. The Dragons' time of 15:44.10 was more than 20 seconds faster than sixth-place Lehigh and seventh-place Temple. Drexel also defeated Rutgers, Lafayette and Delaware.
The junior varsity eight finished behind only Navy and a pair of Penn boats as the Dragons topped Georgetown, Rutgers, Temple and Philadelphia University. Drexel was credited with a time of 16:23.80, almost 10 seconds better than the fifth-place Hoyas. The novice eight clocked a 17:06.20 and were better than five seconds faster than sixth-place Saint Joseph's.
