Philadelphia - Drexel's Jourdan Halasz scored with just four minutes to play, but George Mason answered and tied the Dragons, 1-1, in a tightly contested Colonial Athletic Association match at Vidas Field.
Halasz netted her first collegiate goal as the Dragons (5-9-1, 0-6-1 CAA) converted on a corner kick. Carly Snyder sent the ball towards the net and Halasz drove it home with just 4:01 to play. The Dragons' lead didn't last for long as Mason (4-10-1, 1-5-1 CAA) evened the score just a minute and 10 seconds later. Kelly Keelan drilled a left footed shot from just inside the box into the far corner to even the contest.
There was no scoring for the first 85 minutes of the game, but each team had opportunities. Halasz had two opportunites off corner kicks late in the first half, but she was turned aside once by a Mason defender and again by keeper Melissa Mailley. Mason outshot the Dragons, 10-6, in the first half and had chances as well. The Patriots best chances came in the second half. Kelly Thomas had a good opportunity in the early minutes but was thwarted by Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond. Keelan also had a golden opportunity to score, but her shot hit the cross bar with 25 minutes left in the game.
For the game, the Patriots outshot the Dragons, 25-18, but Drexel had 12 corner kicks, including eight in the second half and two more in the overtime periods. Bond stopped 11 of the 12 Patriots' shots on goal she faced. Mailley had eight stops in net for George Mason.
The Dragons return to action on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Towson Tigers will be in town for a 1 p.m. conference match.
