Four Dragons Win Events at CAA Pod Meet

Harrisonburg, Va. – Four Dragons earned first place overall in the two-day Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet held on the campus of James Madison. Craig Podgurski won the 200 and 500 free, Mert Karsiyakalilar took the 100 fly, Jacob Roberson won the 1-meter dive and Ian Jevnick captured the 3-meter dive against both Old Dominion and William & Mary. For the meet, the Monarchs defeated the Dragons, 234-119, while the Tribe downed Drexel, 220-130.
Podgurski, the reigning CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week, won the 200 free with a time of 1:43.14 then captured the 500 free as he touched the wall in 4:46.10. Karsiyakalilar finished with a time of 52.03 to win the 100 fly. He also took first place in the 200 fly against William & Mary and placed second against Old Dominion with a time of 1:58.16.
Roberson and Jevnick were dominate on both boards as the two combined to take first and second place on the 1- and 3-meter dives. Roberson won the 1-meter with a score of 317.00 while Jevnick took second with a score of 303.45. On the 3-meter board, Jevnick captured first place as he scored 310.45 while Roberson's score of 293.70 was good for second place.
Adrian Sabovici took first place against Old Dominion and was second against the Tribe in the 1650 free with a time of 16:46.19. Sherif Madkour continued his promising freshman season as he took third place in two events and fourth in another overall. Madkour placed first in the 200 breast against William & Mary with a time of 2:09.05 and was behind only two Old Dominion swimmers in the event. In the 200 IM, he captured second against both schools with a time of 1:55.60. His time of 59.08 in the 100 breast trailed two Old Dominion swimmers and one from William & Mary.
The Dragons will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 9 when Drexel travels to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington at 11:00 a.m.
