Podgurski and Madkour Lead Dragons to Win over George Washington, 176-117

Washington, D.C. - Craig Podgurski and Sherif Madkour each placed first in three events as the Dragons picked up their first win of the season at George Washington, 176-117. Podgurski won the 100, 200 and 500 free while Madkour took the 100 and 200 breast along with the 200 IM. Drexel's foursome of Matthew Fenn, Matthew Tannenbaum, Cem Karali and Podgurski also came through with a victory in the 400 free relay.
Podgurski, the 2007-08 CAA Rookie of the Year, won the 100 free with a time of 47.93 to pick up nine points for Drexel. The sophomore also registered a time of 1:46.18 in the 200 and 4:45.19 in the 500 free. Adrian Sabovici finished behind only Podgurski as he claimed second place in the 500 free. The junior claimed first place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:08.84.
Madkour touched the wall in 1:00.69 in the 100 breast and 2:10.00 in the 200 breast to take the two events. The freshman also won the 200 IM as he finished in just over two minutes with a time of 2:00.01.
Divers Jake Roberson and Ian Jevnick each earned a first and a second place finish as Roberson won the 1-meter board with a score of 299.40 while Jevnick took the 3-meter a total of 266.63. Mert Karsiyakalilar and Armagan Yavuz finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 fly. Karsiyakalilar clocked a 51.79 and Yavuz finished at 53.13.
The Dragons return to action on Nov. 20 as they travel to College Park, Md. to compete in the three-day Terrapin Cup Invitational.
