Newark, Del. - Narissa Suber, Gabriela Marginean and Jasmina Rosseel received All-Conference recognition at the annual awards banquet on Wednesday night, before the start of the CAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Marginean earned First Team All-CAA honors. Suber was named to the All-CAA Third Team and Rosseel made the All-Rookie Team.
Marginean followed up her 2006-07 Rookie of the Year honor with a stellar 07-08 season. The sophomore averaged more than 19 points per game and also led the Dragons in rebounds, steals, field goal and free throw percentage. She earned Conference Player of the Week honors three times during the season. Marginean became the first sophomore in Drexel history to score 1,000 points and she matched Old Dominion's Clarisse Machanguana as the fastest players in CAA history to reache the milestone, achieveing it in 58 career games.
Narissa Suber earned the third All-Conference recognition of her career. After earning a place on the All-Rookie Team in 2004-05 and the All-CAA Third Team in 2005-06, Suber played her way into All-Conference consideration again this season. She led the CAA in three-point accuracy, ranked fourth in three-pointers per game and among the top 15 scorers in the conference. Suber became just the third player in conference history to make 300 three-pointers and she is now just one trey shy of tying for second place on the conference's all-time three-pointers list. Suber is one of just seven Dragons to score 1,400 career points.
Rosseel picked up All-Rookie honors after coming on down the stretch for the Dragons. She earned three conference Rookie of the Week awards throughout the season and has been playing her best basketball of the season in Drexel's last six games. Rosseel has supplied the Dragons with a lift off the bench all season. She scored a career-high 18 points against James Madison in the Dragons' upset victory and matched it two games later against George Mason. She is currently third on the team in scoring (9.2) and leads all CAA rookies in three-point accuracy (37.7 %). Rosseel is averaging just under 14 points per game over Drexel's last six contests and in the final regular-season game for the Dragons, Rosseel set career highs for rebounds (7) and assists (5).
Senior guard Andrea Peterson was also recognized as a Dean Ehlers Award nominee. Peterson has been one of the leading purveyors of Drexel's community outreach efforts since joining the team in 2006. She has organized an annual charity fundraiser 3-on-3 tournament for the last two years and has spearheaded Drexels' holiday visits to local daycare centers.
Sophomore forward Jennifer Stjarnstrom earned Second Team All-Academic honors, joining a prestigeous group of student-athletes honored by the conference. Stjarnstrom is a general humanities and social science major with a GPA better than 3.0.
Drexel sees its first action at the CAA Tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the Dragons will face the winner of Thursday's matchup between No. 5 Towson and No. 12 Hofstra.
