
Delaware Holds Off No. 10 Drexel, 12-11

Newark, Del. - The No. 10 ranked Drexel men's lacrosse team lost a 12-11 nailbiter to archrival Delaware at Rullo Field. The Dragons rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the game early in the fourth quarter, but Delaware scored three times in the final 4:28 to pick up the win. Drexel is now 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in the CAA, while Delaware improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Drexel's Colin Ambler scored to tie the game at 9-9 on a feed from Kevin Stockel with 11:52 to play on the man-up. The score stayed that way until the 4:28 mark, when Delaware's Beau Davis scored a man-up goal to give the Hens the lead for good. The Hens made it a two goal game with 1:42 to play when Curtis Dickson scored an unassisted goal. The Dragons cut the lead to 11-10 when Greg Casey found the back of the net, but Dickson answered again at the 57 second mark to give Delaware a two-goal lead. It was Dickson's sixth goal of the game. Drexel won the face-off and Zak Fisher set up Scott Perri to give the Dragons hope, but Delaware won the final face off and sealed the win.
The Blue Hens took a 4-1 lead to intermission, but Drexel's offense came alive early in the second half. Kevin Stockel, Andrew Chapman and Casey each had goals to tie the game at four early in the third. Delaware scored the next two goals to take a 6-4 lead. The Hens would never trial in the game.
Delaware's Dickson finished with seven points. He leads the CAA in goals and now has 38. Cam Howard added a pair of goals and assists. Casey and Perri each had three goals for Drexel, while Stockel had three points.
The Dragons controlled the face-offs in the game, winning 18 of 27. Ryan West won eight of nine, while teammate Zak Fisher was 9-for-14. Tom Scherr made 17 saves for the Blue Hens. Drexel's Bruce Bickford had 14.
Drexel is back in action on Saturday at Towson. Game time is 3 p.m. and the contest can be seen on CN8.
