
Dragons Place Four Boats in Finals at Murphy Cup

Philadelphia - Drexel crew raced against some of the best collegiate competition in the region on the Schuylkill River in the Murphy Cup Regatta. The Dragons entered six boats into competition as four earned their way into the finals after registering some of the fastest times in the preliminary heats. The women's novice eight, men's junior varsity eight and both the men's and women's varsity eight raced their way into the finals.
The women's novice eight opened the day with a second-place finish in the opening heat with a time of 7:21.40. The time was the second best among all non-first place finishers in the four heats as the Dragons advanced to the final where they finished sixth.
In the third and final heat in men's junior varsity eight competition, Drexel placed second behind Temple but its time of 6:01.00 was the best among all non-winners as the Dragons earned a berth in the finals. Drexel finished fourth in the finals ahead of Delaware's A boat and Lehigh.
In women's varsity eight action, Drexel placed third in the second of four heats but the second heat featured tough competition as Drexel's time of 6:44.97 was better than any non-first place finisher in the other heats. The time earned the Dragons a place in the finals where they finished sixth.
Drexel's men's varsity eight was edged at the line by Fordham by 0.14 seconds for first place but its time of 5:51.54 was the best non-winning time as was third best of all the times in all the heats. In the final, the Dragons finished fifth.
