Boston, Mass. - Aleka Yiantsos scored her 19th career goal to set the school mark for career goals, but Drexel (5-4) lost its CAA opener at Northeastern in overtime, 3-2. The game, originally schedule for Friday, was postponed and made up on Saturday afternoon. Due to the adjustment, Sunday's home opener against Hofstra has been moved back to 4 p.m.
The teams went to the half scoreless, but that didn't last for long. Northeastern got on the board when Victoria Napoli scored just eight minutes into the second half. Drexel responded less than a minute later when Aleka Yiantsos scored an unassisted goal to tie the contest. The Dragons continued putting on the pressure and six minutes later, Caley Burke took a feed from Daria Bialik , to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead. That lead held up until the final minutes of the contest, but Northeastern's Victoria Napoli tied the game with less than three minutes to play. It was her second goal of the game and she would add one more in overtime to give Northeastern the win.
Drexel outshot the Huskies. 12-9. Kaitlin Bond played the entire game in goal for the Dragons and had three saves. Drexel will look to even its CAA record on Sunday when it faces Hofstra at Vidas Field at 4 p.m.
