Drexel Crew to Wrap Fall Season with Pair of Regattas

Drexel's 2009 fall season will come to a close this weekend as the Dragons will travel to the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. for the Frostbite Regatta on Saturday before returning to the Schuylkill for the Bill Braxton Regatta on Sunday. The event will be the first sprint event for Drexel Crew this season as both regattas will feature 2,000 meter courses and side-by-side racing. The Drexel women's varsity eight will be looking to repeat last season's impressive performances that saw the boat take first place in both regattas.
Saturday's Frostbite Regatta will begin for Drexel at 12:30 p.m. as the Dragons' men's second varsity eight, in the Annette Pennoni boat, will compete just one race before Drexel's third varsity eight, in the Peggy Greenawalt boat, run its heat in the men's junior varsity eight competition. The Drexel women get their first action in the novice eight competition at 1:19 p.m. in the Anna Marie boat. The men's novice eight will race 21 minutes later in the Joseph Greipp boat. At
At 3:04 p.m., varsity racing will begin for Drexel as the John Daskalakis boat will hold the women's second varsity eight. At 3:25 p.m., the Marlene Buckley will face off against Temple, Philadelphia University and Lafayette among other in women's varsity eight competition. The boat is coming off of an impressive showing at the Head of the Schuylkill where the Marlene Buckley defeated all collegiate opponents. The Frostbite Regatta will wrap up at 3:39 as the men's varsity eight competes in the Vince Vidas boat.
On Sunday, the women's varsity eight will lead off the action at the Bill Braxton Regatta. The Marlene Buckley will race at 9:15 a.m. as the boat looks to win for the second straight season. Just five minutes later, the Annette Pennoni will begin its race as the Drexel men's second varsity eight competes. In the next race, the Vince Vidas will race with Drexel's top men's varsity eight. The Dragons will face stiff competition in the race as Marietta and Temple will battle Drexel in the 9:25 race.
The women's junior varsity eight competition will feature Drexel's John Daskalakis boat at 9:30 a.m. while the Annette Pennoni will race for the second time in 15 minutes as the second varsity eight will make an appearance in the junior varsity eight event alongside Drexel's third varsity eight in the Peggy Greenawalt boat.
The fall season wraps up with novice eight competition with the women's novice eight in the Anna Marie racing at 10:10 a.m. Drexel has two men's novice eight boats entered as the Joseph Greipp boat races at 10:20 while the Class of '72 boat follows in the next race at 10:25 a.m.
